Superman debuted eighty years ago in Action Comics #1 back in 1938, and last April Action Comics #1000 was released. Pretty impressive. I mean, how often does a comic book series hit the 1,000 mark?
80 x 12 is 960 so there must have been times when the series put out more than one issue a month to be at #1000 already.
You might say I’ve been a Superman fan for a long time.
In fact, I’ve been a huge fan for as long as I can remember, predating my Star Wars craze even. The moment my Star Wars collecting began (that legendary Christmas morning) I had already been wearing Superman pajamas forever.
My dad carved this for me when I was four or five.
So, here’s to 80 years of Superman!
And if you’re looking for a great Superman tale, you might want to check out SUPERMAN: UNCHAINED, written by Scott Snyder and drawn by Jim Lee. It was a nine-issue mini-series that came out in 2013 and 2014.
These issues have since been collected into a book, and it’s well worth the read.
The writing and art work are top notch, and it features Clark, Lois, Jimmy, Lex, General Lane, and Wraith. And even Batman and Wonder Woman!
Here are some sample pages:
So, can Jim Lee draw the Batcave or what?!
See you next time!
I love that cute picture!!
Thanks, Stephanie!
