Last year, Hasbro released some great toys tied to JEDI turning 40, including this set.

I don’t always buy the retro collection figures because I already have most of the originals that they’re based on. However, this set was a must-have for the following reasons.
First, Mon Mothma was never made during the original 1977-1985 run, not gaining action figure status until 1998. So, this is the first vintage-style figure of this character.
Secondly, Yak Face is one of the few vintage figures I don’t have, as it was never available in the USA and now sells for more than what I’m willing to pay. With this Retro Yak Face looking pretty much identical to the original, it’s a great addition to my collection.
Thirdly, though I already have an original Royal Guard, and some original Gamorrean Guards, it never hurts to add to these “troop builder”figures.
And finally, my original Wicket is missing the spear, so it’s great to have that accessory back in my collection.
The only figure I wouldn’t have purchased if these had been available separately is Ackbar, as I have the original with the accessory, and it’s not a troop builder.
Time to open the box!

Retro Mothma alongside the 1998 original and the 2005 REVENGE OF THE SITH release.

And here’s some Yak Face comparisons, the Retro with the 2019 Sail Barge exclusive and the 2023 Vintage Collection release.

Okay, let’s open the retros and see how they look all set up together.

Looking great!
And here’s some comparisons with my originals. They look dead on!

This is Retro Yak Face compared to a picture of the 1985 original, as seen in Stephen Sansweet’s STAR WARS: THE ACTION FIGURE ARCHIVE (1999). The face looks a little different to the one in the book in this shot, but that’s due to the angle.

This Retro Collection box set is a Hasbro Pulse exclusive.
