1997 Star Wars Monopoly

Today’s post takes us back to 1997 when Parker Brothers released a limited edition of MONOPOLY: STAR WARS to coincide with the 20th anniversary of STAR WARS.

It came with eight pewter SW character game-pieces.

The Darth Vader and Boba Fett ones are my favorites!

And check out the super cool currency (Imperial credits) that feature the Imperial Palace!

The five brass 1,000-credit coins are especially great!

And I love the SW property deeds!

Okay. Let’s take a trip around the board:

We get a “special edition” scene on the Mos Eisley property.

Each board was numbered.

The Coruscant illustrations are interesting as they don’t match the live action scenes that we would later get of this city-planet. But it’s fun to see how an artist interpreted what the place looked like back when it had only been in books.

Of course, we do get a glimpse of Coruscant at the end of RETURN OF THE JEDI Special Edition, which came out the same year as this monopoly set, but I’m guessing these images weren’t available for the artist to reference during the making of this game.

And there you have it!

Quite the SW gem from the late ’90s.
