Hasbro’s STAR WARS “The Vintage Collection” is back! (Part 1)

Hello there! (As Obi-Wan would say)

Toydust here.

Hasbro’s STAR WARS “The Vintage Collection” is back with six new figures for 2018.

It’s called The Vintage Collection because these figures come in packaging that is reminiscent of the packaging used for the original STAR WARS figures released in the late 70s and early 80s. The figures themselves are not the original figures, but are new sculpts with more points of articulation.

For reference, pictured above is an original AT-AT COMMANDER figure from the early 80s, still in the package.

And here’s packaging for figures from some of the recent movies:

THE LAST JEDI:

Pretty good – I like the illustrations on these. But, as you can see, THE LAST JEDI packaging doesn’t say the title of the film. In fact, Hasbro is releasing figures from all the films right now, including SOLO, with this title-less, white and red packaging.

Previously, whenever a new STAR WARS movie came out, the original figures released from that film had the movie name on the packaging to hype the new movie. This was true for the original trilogy, the prequels, and the first two Disney films.

(Well, okay, the original PHANTOM MENACE figure packaging said EPISODE I, but close enough)

But I was disappointed we didn’t get the film titles on the figure packaging for THE LAST JEDI and SOLO.

With this in mind, let’s go back to our topic: six new figures with vintage style packaging:

Yeah, I had to pick up two of those new Hoth soldiers!

So this is pretty great!

For the first time we get a figure that has the title THE LAST JEDI on the package. And for the first time we’re getting figures in vintage style packaging for the new Disney films.

Hopefully Hasbro will add some more figures to this collection, including some characters from SOLO.
